John Berry

The U.S. Senate confirmed John Berry as the next director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
Prior to accepting the appointment, Berry was the director of the National Zoo in Washington.
He also previously served as the director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and assistant secretary for policy, management and budget at the Department of the Interior during the Clinton administration.
He earned a master's degree in public administration from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland.

Springbok Services, a prepaid card programs provider based in Englewood Colo., hired L. Kelly Bolin as senior vice president of human resources.
Prior to joining the company, Bolin served as practice leader for both human capital services as well as organizational strategy services for North Highland Co.
He has also held senior-level positions for Mercer HR Consulting, IBM Business Consulting and Ernst & Young Management Consulting.
Bolin holds a doctorate in organizational psychology and a master's degree in organizational behavior from the California School of Organizational Studies in Los Angeles and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Pepperdine University.

Mercantile Bancorp Inc., based in Quincy, Ill., hired Sheri Boyle as senior vice president and director of human resources. She reports directly to CEO Ted T. Awerkamp.
Most recently, Boyle served as global compensation manager for Gardner Denver Inc.
She also held administrative human resource and compensation analysis positions with Bunge North America, Emerson and Campaign Tel, Limited and Affiliated.
She earned a master's degree in human resource management from Webster University and a bachelor's degree in media communications from Truman State University.
She is a WorldatWork certified compensation professional and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. She also serves as a den leader and committee member for the Boy Scouts of America.

Ursula O. Fairbairn, CEO and president of the Fairbairn Group LLC and former executive vice president of human resources and quality at American Express, was named as one of six directors to receive the 2009 Outstanding Directors award from the Outstanding Directors Exchange in New York.
She currently sits on the board of directors for Air Products and Chemicals, Centex, Sunoco and VF Corporation.
Since 1998, the award has been given annually to board directors who have been recognized by their peers as leaders who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, demonstrating judgment, courage and integrity while acting in the interests of shareholders.

The National Council for Research on Women honored Sunita Holzer, executive vice president of human resources at Warren, N.J.-based Chubb Group of Insurance Cos., with an Outstanding Making a Difference for Women award at its annual dinner in New York on March 3.
Holzer joined Chubb as worldwide human resource officer in 2003 and was promoted to her current position in 2007.
Previously, she held managerial positions at GE Capital Corporate, American Express and American International Group.
She holds a master's degree in human resource management from the School of Labor Relations at New York Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
She also holds a Six Sigma certification and is a member of Chubb's Women of Color Advisory Council and serves on the Board for Jersey Battered Women's Service Inc.

Prior to joining the grocery chain, Labian spent the last six years as chief human resource officer and global vice president of human resources for Whole Foods Market Inc.
Before that post, she held leadership roles at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Harris Specialty Chemicals and Maine Transportation Services Inc.
Labian holds a dual master's degree in business management and human resources development from Webster University and a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Punam Mathur

Las Vegas-based energy provider NV Energy Inc. hired Punam Mathur as vice president of human resources.
Most recently, Mathur served as senior vice president of corporate diversity and community affairs at MGM Mirage. Prior to joining Mirage Resorts in 1996, she had been with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce for six years, holding a variety of management positions, the last of which was senior vice president of government affairs.
Mathur attended the University of British Columbia, where she studied elementary education.
She currently serves as the chairperson of the board of trustees for Three Square, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting hunger in southern Nevada.

Prior to joining the company, Pendergrast was co-founder of HR consulting firm Vibrant Organizations. Prior to that, she served as vice president of human resources for Citrix Systems Inc.
She also has held management roles at American Express and Certified Vacations/Alamo.
Pendergrast holds an M.B.A. from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University.

Rodney Vinegar was named senior vice president of human resources for Scripps Network, based in Knoxville, Tenn.
Vinegar joined the company from UBS, where he served as human resource director.
He previously worked as director of human resources for Frito-Lay and Colgate-Palmolive. He also served as director of employee relations for Sanofi-Synthelabo in Paris.
He holds a law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Kentucky.
